چکیده
The ongoing H1N1 influenza pandemic has provided a vivid reminder that hospitals are on the front lines of infectious disease monitoring, identification, and reporting in their communities. And, within hospitals, infection prevention professionals are key players—both in managing and coordinating the responses of their institutions to ongoing infectious disease challenges and in preparing for future outbreaks. Though the current influenza outbreak in the United States so far has been less serious than originally feared, a recent report found that even the relatively mild outbreak overwhelmed the U.S. healthcare system. The June 2009 report from the Trust for America’s Health, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Biosecurity found that communication between government agencies and healthcare providers was not well coordinated,

Economics of infection control surveillance technology: cost-effective or just cost?
BACKGROUND Previous studies have suggested that informatics tools, such as automated alert and decision support systems, may increase the efficiency and quality of infection control surveillance. However, little is known about the cost-effectiveness of these tools. METHODS We focus on 2 types of economic analyses that have utility in assessing infection control interventions (cost-effectivene...

Methods An observational cohort study on MRSA trends was prospectively carried out from 1993 onwards. Infection control measures were initiated and intensified at various time points, including patient screening, surveillance, contact isolation, a computerized alert system and hospital-wide promotion campaign of hand hygiene. In 2003, the Vigigerm program was introduced, 2006 a second promotion...

Background: Nosocomial infection is one of the major causes of death in neonates. In recent years, the results of nosocomial infection control committee, which carried out, based on a protocol of National Nosocomial Infection Surveillance (NNIS) is not consistent with neonatal review articles. This study was performed to determine the prevalence and incidence of nosocomial infection with an act...
متن کاملAssociation Rules and Data Mining in Hospital Infection Control and Public Health Surveillance
Design: The authors first illustrate the need for automated pattern discovery and data mining in hospital infection control and public health surveillance. Next, they define association rules, explain how those rules can be used in surveillance, and present a novel process and system— the Data Mining Surveillance System (DMSS)—that utilize association rules to identify new and interesting patte...
متن کاملNational Minimum Data Set for Antimicrobial Resistance Management: Toward Global Surveillance System
Background: Success of infection treatment depends on the availability of accurate, reliable, and comprehensive data, information, and knowledge at the point of therapeutic decision-making. The identification of a national minimum data set will support the development and implementation of an effective surveillance system. The goal of this study was to develop a national antimicrobial resistanc...
